Every third blind individual, according to statistics, is an Indian. The medical field of optometry focuses on vision and eye health. Today this medical profession is one of the most desired career options in India. This offers eye care services- diagnosis of eye diseases, treatment of eye diseases, vision services, and surgical and medical eye care. Optometrists can prescribe contact lenses and eyeglasses to correct refractive errors and can detect vision defects, eye injuries, ocular abnormalities and health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Thus, people who experience eye difficulties lead more fulfilling lives.

The field of optometry also has a wide variety of job roles, both in the public or private sectors. With a degree of Optometry, candidates can opt for job profiles such as Optometrist, Senior Optometrist, Optometry Researcher, Ophthalmologist, etc. in Eye hospitals, clinics and opticians’ outlets or with multinational vision care companies, etc. Master of Optometry is a post-graduate programme that aims at training optometrists into becoming eye specialists with the capabilities of examining and diagnosing different ophthalmic problems and coming up with proper treatment or solution for the same.
